Traceability system for tobacco products

Starting with October 31, 2019 the system will become fully operational in Romania. Namely:

·        Packages of cigarettes and rolled tobacco will be marked with unique identification codes issued by the National Printing House;

·        Moving the products to the first retail store will be registered in the EU traceability system;

·        Economic operators who trade and/or distribute tobacco products, including the logistics platforms for supplying their own stores, must scan, record and transmit information regarding the products destined for them.

In Romania, during the period May 20, 2019 - present the economic operators had the possibility to use unique identifiers issued by other ID issuers from other Member States, due to the inoperability of the system at national level. These IDs were valid for 6 months from the date of their issuance.

How does the above influence the activity of your company?

If you are involved in transactions with tobacco products (cigarettes and rolling tobacco), in the absence of a unique economic operator/unit code you will no longer be able to receive such products

The unique identifiers issued by other ID issuers from other Member States were valid for 6 months from the date of their issuance.
